About IM Injections

Intramuscular (IM) injection is a medical procedure in which medication (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc.) is administered directly into a muscle tissue. Medications administered via IM injection are absorbed more slowly than those given intravenously but faster than those administered subcutaneously. The large blood supply to muscles facilitates efficient absorption of the medication into the bloodstream.
